The representative of Porto striker and Iran international Mehdi Taremi has posted a picture of Manchester United ’s badge – fuelling speculation over a possible transfer to Old Trafford.
United boss Erik ten Hag started with a striker-less formation in his side’s two-goal victory over Leeds as they began pre-season. Teenager Joe Hugill – who scored as a second half substitute – is the only striker in United’s squad to make the trip to Oslo for the match.
The Red Devils are ramping up their pursuit of Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund. The club are intent on signing at least one new central striker this summer following the expiration of Wout Weghorst’s loan arrangement – leaving Anthony Martial as the only recognised senior player in that position, with the Frenchman’s future at Old Trafford unclear.
Last month, Portuguese outlet Jornal de Noticias outlined how United were also following Taremi – who is out of contract at Porto in a year’s time. A contract extension appears unlikely and the Portuguese giants could be willing to significantly reduce his asking price to €20million (£17m).
With United having signed Mason Mount and closing in on a deal to sign Andre Onana from Inter, their budget for further additions is based on outgoings. Hojlund remains a prime target but Taremi would offer another, more affordable option – and United are not ruling out the addition of two strikers this summer, depending on their budget.
Borna Khoramdel, who is the CEO of Arvand Sport – the agency that represents Taremi – posted an image of United’s badge on Wednesday. Arvand Sport are not awash with high-profile clients and Khoramdel’s post appears to be an attempt to ramp up speculation over the striker.

Taremi, 30, has bagged 80 goals across three campaigns for Porto – having enjoyed a breakthrough season in European football with Portuguese outfit Rio Ave the previous campaign. He is also a star for the Iranian national team, with 36 goals in 68 caps.
United legend Rio Ferdinand was reportedly in contact with Taremi’s agent last season to help clinch a deal to the Premier League. The striker appears to be on the move away from Portugal this summer – but no firm offers have yet been lodged.
Ferdinand surprised viewers during BBC ’s coverage of England vs Iran in the World Cup group stage back in November when he made the claim live on air: “I know him quite well. I spoke to him on the phone a few times, he’s a really good guy.”
Presenter Gary Lineker asked in response, appearing to be surprised: “Where do you know him from?” to which a tight-lipped Ferdinand replied: “I just knew him from a bit of business.”
