Gianluigi Donnarumma expects to play for Paris Saint-Germain next season and has been told by the club’s football advisor Luis Campos that he is still part of their plans.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes this summer.

However, the Italy international, who has three years left on his contract, is happy in Paris and not looking for a move away from the club.

Sources close to the goalkeeper confirmed that Donnarumma is looking forward to returning to the club for pre-season and working with new manager Luis Enrique.

Donnarumma joined PSG in the summer of 2021 from AC Milan after playing for six seasons in Serie A.

In his two years at PSG, he has made 72 appearances and won three trophies, including two Ligue 1 titles.

The goalkeeper spent the majority of his debut season in Paris competing for a starting role with Keylor Navas and started half of his new side’s league games.

However, last season, he established himself as the team’s No 1 starting all 38 Ligue 1 games, keeping 13 clean sheets.

‘A solid season but distribution remains a concern’

Peter Rutzler, who covers PSG for The Athletic , has looked in detail at Donnarumma and his issues with distribution. You can read the full analysis here, but this is a snippet…

“It has not all been plain sailing since Donnarumma signed as a free agent when his Milan contract expired. His first season in Paris was defined by a costly error against Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16. Year two has also had moments of concern.

“Overall, Donnarumma has had a pretty solid season and there are mitigating factors for any dips anyway. Injuries have cut through PSG’s thin squad and meant he’s had an unstable backline for much of 2022-23.

“Such constant change does not lead to familiarity and that adds a challenge to Donnarumma’s role.

“But there is still one major area of lingering concern, an element of his game that has been remarked upon throughout his career and it is do with his distribution.”
