Aaron Ramsdale and Gabriel Magalhaes made costly errors for Arsenal which both led to goals against Manchester United in their friendly in America.
After tight opening exchanges, goalkeeper Tom Heaton found Kobbie Mainoo with a long ball. He duly slid in newly-appointed Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, who carried the ball into the final third to pick out a shot just from outside the attacking area.
The ball glided towards the bottom corner, with Ramsdale diving to keep the shot out. However, Ramsdale parried the ball into his own net with a weak attempted stop to hand Manchester United a 1-0 lead. The error was Ramdale’s first goal conceded thus far into the pre-season.
Ramsdale’s error stung was but quickly forgotten after a follow-up error by Brazilian center-back Gabriel Magalhaes. Just seven minutes later, the 25-year-old misjudged a long ball and saw his side punished.
After Magalhaes failed to locate the ball in the air, Jadon Sancho was able slip past the back line and race clear. Gabriel attempted to recover but the England international fired a well-taken finish beyond Ramsdale and into the roof of the net.
Following the goal, Arsenal fans expressed frustration towards their team, questioning Magalhaes’ position in the side due to his frequent mistakes. Additionally, they directed their disappointment toward Ramsdale for allowing a second goal before the end of the first half.
Both teams were keen to work on their tactics in front of a huge crowd in New Jersey. With new signings on both sides and wholesale changes at the break, both managers could generally be pleased with a solid workout despite two individual mistakes costing Arsenal.
