Five potential Jordan Henderson replacements

The agent of Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat has confirmed clubs want to sign the midfielder amid interest from Manchester United and Liverpool.

Mahmoud El Boustati has claimed that it is now a case of the 26-year-old ‘making the right choice’ for his next club. The Moroccan international looks set to leave the Serie A outfit this summer with multiple clubs monitoring his situation.

However, United’s interest appears to be the most advanced and Erik ten Hag – who previously coached the player at FC Utrecht – is driving the talks. This is despite reports from earlier this year claiming Jurgen Klopp held a meeting with the player’s age nt.

Amrabat returned to the club’s training facilities this week but is believed to be desperate to leave Fiorentina. The midfielder was told by the club in the January transfer window that if he stayed until the end of the campaign, they would allow his summer exit.

Speaking to Voetbal Primeur, El Boustati has explained: “Quite a few clubs are interested in Sofyan. It is now a matter of making the right choice. He is still just a Fiorentina player and he reported to Fiorentina on Monday.”

El Boustati continued: “If something interesting comes up, Sofyan is open to the step, Fiorentina are too. There are two, three clubs that he is open to.”

When asked if the transfer will happen this summer, he responded: “We are assuming that. There is interest from Saudi Arabia. But there is no concrete offer or concrete interest.”

Liverpool are in the market for Amrabat as they seek to add several midfielders to their squad after multiple summer exits. Captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho are both set to join Saudi Arabian clubs after Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner all left as free agents.

Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been signed from Brighton and RB Leipzig respectively but the club are likely to add two more defensive-minded midfielders. Romeo Lavia of Southampton is a prime target while Amrabat is also on their wanted list.

United need to sell midfielders before they can add to their squad. Fred is likely to leave Old Trafford before the arrival of any midfielder, with Alex Telles and Anthony Elanga starting Ten Hag’s first-team squad clearout.
