Confirmed Chelsea starting lineup as James, Jackson and Nkunku start
Mauricio Pochettino has chosen to combine the talents of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson for the first time against Newcastle United in Atlanta. The duo both got on the scoresheet against Brighton in the first game of the Premier League Summer Series, and now the former would appear to have his first opportunity away from leading the forward line.
Kepa Arrizabalaga starts in goal for the Blues and ahead of him Reece James makes into Chelsea’s lineup for the first time this summer. The Cobham product was late in joining up with Chelsea having suffered illness, and was left out of the squad to face Brighton but has not been inserted straight into the starting XI.
Pochettino has opted or a youthful defensive partnership in Trevoh Chalobah and Bashir Humphreys, with Marc Cucurella patrolling the left flank.
Enzo Fernandez makes his first start of the summer having came off the bench in the previous match and is partnered by Cesare Casadei who has enjoyed an impressive start to pre-season. Ahead of them Ian Maatsen, making his third consecutive start, and Mykhailo Mudryk provide support from the wings.
