The Moises Caicedo transfer saga has a new twist today as the Blues submitted a new bid in the last 24 hours. Chelsea have been in contact with Brighton for weeks now as they aim to get the deal over the line for their top target, Caicedo. The Ecuadorian remains keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea always knew it. They knew that the negotiations with Brighton for Caicedo were never going to be straight forward and easy. The West London outfit want to revolutionize their midfield this summer and want Caicedo to be the cornerstone of the midfield revolution. Caicedo along with Enzo Fernandez could form a dynamic and dangerous duo under Mauricio Pochettino.
For that to happen, CFC needed to ensure seamless negotiations with the Seagulls. Discussions with Caicedo have never been an issue with the 21 year old having already agreed to join Chelsea. After a number of exits, CFC opened talks with Brighton for Caicedo and had seen at least two of their bids rejected.
Chelsea bid rejected for Moises Caicedo
The Blues’ stance was very clear, they wanted to get the deal done inside of £80 million, whereas, Brighton wanted £100 million for their prized asset. Behdad Eghbali even met the Brighton chiefs in the USA during the pre-season tour and to make some progress on the Caicedo deal. In fact, a report surfaced that indicated that CFC have set a limit of £80 million to get the deal done for Caicedo.
According to Fabrizio Romano, in the last 24 hours, the West London outfit submitted a new bid of €93 million (£80 million) for the Ecuador international which was immediately rejected by Brighton. Negotiations continue to take place but there is no agreement between CFC and the Seagulls for Caicedo.
If earlier reports are to be believed, Chelsea have reached their spending limit on Caicedo as they remain determined not to overspend on the 21 year old. Seeing Brighton’s stubborn stance, the Blues may have to yield and submit a bid over £80 million.
On the other hand, Romeo Lavia seems to be slipping away from CFC as Liverpool are the frontrunners to sign the Southampton star. The Belgian has remained a target for Chelsea but Liverpool have already submitted a bid and there is confidence that a deal can be completed soon.
Just like how the Fernandez saga rumbled for the entire month of January, the vibes from Caicedo saga are such that they could continue till the very end of the summer window.
