He was recently stripped as the club’s captain to only further fuel speculation that he is not in the Dutchman’s plans.

And according to The Athletic, Europa Conference League champions West Ham have made an offer to prise the England international away from the Theatre of Dreams.

But it has been said that the Red Devils have rejected their £20m offer – £60m less than what they paid for him in 2019.

The Hammers are now claimed to be mulling over whether they will return with an improved bid for the ex-Leicester star.

David Moyes is believed to be desperate to secure the services of the experienced centre-back as they prepare for the Europa League next season.
