Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Rennes midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu.

The deal is for a permanent signing. Chelsea have reached an agreement worth around €27.5million (£23.5m) for the 19-year-old. A medical is scheduled for the next 24 hours.

Ugochukwu has also agreed personal terms with Chelsea and will sign a long-term contract with the west London club.

It is undecided at this stage whether Ugochukwu will go straight into the first-team squad or go on loan.

Ugochukwu made 35 appearances for Rennes last season.

Chelsea have already signed France international Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal and Brazilian winger Angelo Gabriel this summer while there have been a number of outgoings.

Midfielder and academy graduate Mason Mount has left for Manchester United.

Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and N’Golo Kante have all swapped Stamford Bridge for Saudi Arabia with further exits expected as new head coach Mauricio Pochettino sets about rebuilding the squad.

Chelsea begin their Premier League campaign against Liverpool on August 13.
