Neil Cutler ‘in discussions’ to join Wolves after Aston Villa exit
Former Aston Villa goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler is reportedly in talks with Wolves over a move to Molineux.
Wolves are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper coach, with Tony Roberts expected to join Italian giants AC Milan. The coach has been with Wolves since the summer of 2021, when he joined from Birmingham City.
As reported by the Daily Mail’s Tom Collomosse, Wolves have now turned to Cutler as a potential replacement. The 46-year-old has been without a club since leaving Villa just after the appointment of Unai Emery.
Cutler was at Villa Park between November 2018 and October 2022, and earned praise for his work, in particular with current Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. He worked with the World Cup winner after he signed from Arsenal in the summer of 2020.

After Cutler’s exit was confirmed by the club, Martinez took to social media to send a message to the coach. I can’t thank you enough for the way you helped me since day one,” he wrote.
“Not just a gk coach to me you became my friend, unfortunately football isn’t fair sometimes but I’m sure you will find a right club for you. Best English coach by miles.”
Talking to the Claret & Blue Podcast back in November, Cutler responded to his exit from Villa: I know exactly how it is and exactly how it works,” he said.
“I’m big and ugly enough to understand that that’s football. Obviously, I’m devastated to leave the football club. What I built over four years was working, and with the young boys coming through, the way Emi was performing, everyone was developing really well.
“But that’s football, and that’s exactly how it is. If you go into the game naïve to think you’re above that, then you’re going to have a nasty experience. You’ve just got to understand it and know it, that’s just the way it is. Players move on, people move on quickly. The club moves on very, very quickly.”
