‘Exciting’ Chelsea, Liverpool target now frustrated at club for failed transfer

1 minute read

Liverpool transfer target Moises Caicedo is growing increasingly frustrated at Brighton & Hove Albion after the Seagulls rejected Chelsea’s offer for his move to west London.

That is according to The Times, which reports that Caicedo will ask Brighton to cut the price tag on him. The Amex Stadium outfit have so far held firm in their belief that the 21-year-old is worth £100m. So, the Seagulls snubbed Chelsea’s latest improved bid of £80m for him.

Stamford Bridge chiefs submitted their third bid for Caicedo so far this summer on Thursday. But the Blues failed to convince the south coast side to sanction a switch. Now, Chelsea are considering whether or not they are prepared to return to the table and make a fourth offer.

Brighton’s transfer stance is making Caicedo increasingly frustrated

Caicedo and his representatives hope to speak to Brighton as soon as possible to try and get them to reduce their valuation. The Seagulls’ resolute stance is a source of increasing anger for the Ecuador midfielder. Especially as he only cost them £4.5m to sign in February 2021.

Brighton’s owner, Tony Bloom, and their head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, are the main figures behind the Seagulls’ resistance. They are eager to keep Caicedo at the Amex ahead of a first season in Europe for the club. Brighton also hope to try and match last term’s strong efforts.

Chelsea could now walk away from signing the Liverpool target

Brighton believe Caicedo is worth £100m given he still has another four years on his contract at the Amex. The Seagulls have also watched Arsenal pay West Ham United £100m rising up to £105m for Declan Rice and see Chelsea bring in Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for £107m.

But despite now bidding up to £80m for Caicedo, Chelsea may walk away from negotiations with Brighton for his transfer. The Blues’ hesitancy may swing the door back open for Jurgen Klopp to swoop. The Telegraph claimed earlier in July that Liverpool also appreciate Caicedo.

Liverpool have explored targeting a transfer from Brighton for Caicedo with Klopp refreshing his midfield. But Anfield chiefs expected the 32-cap star – who Graham Potter once called ‘exciting’ – to sign for Chelsea. Yet that may no longer be the case after they fell short again.
