Ten Hag could be overruled, with Man Utd braced for fresh forward offer that will tempt
Erik ten Hag has a preferred destination in mind for a forward Man Utd could loan out, though a tempting new suitor might torpedo the Dutchman’s plan, per reports.
The Red Devils are on the cusp of striking an agreement to sign Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund. The Serie A side announced the arrival of Hojlund’s replacement on Saturday afternoon. Elsewhere, the Dane was left out of Atalanta’s friendly clash with Bournemouth to ensure he didn’t pick up an injury that could’ve derailed the move.
With Hojlund seemingly destined for Old Trafford, Man Utd’s forward ranks are poised to swell.
Ten Hag can already call upon Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Anthony Martial. Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri are also champing at the bit in reserve.
But with such strong competition for places, a loan exit for Uruguay international Pellistri has been touted.
The 21-year-old looked bright during his 10 first-team appearances last season. However, the fact they totalled just 214 minutes of action tells its own story.
Pellistri may well benefit from another loan spell away or run the risk of his development being stunted while warming the bench at United. The winger has twice been loaned to Spanish side Alaves while on the books at Old Trafford.
A recent report from the Netherlands claimed Dutch side FC Twente have emerged as a credible contender to sign Pellistri on loan.
Ten Hag knows Twente well having finished his playing career at the club between 1996-2002. Per the report, Ten Hag was steering Pellistri to his former side.
However, it was stressed the final decision on who to join if the loan route is taken would be Pellistri’s and not Ten Hag’s. Aside from Twente, Bologna, Real Betis and Gremio have all shown interest.
But according to Argentine journalist Luis Fregossi, Man Utd and Pellistri could soon receive a tempting offer to return to South America.
Argentine giant ready to swoop; Cavani link-up possible
Fregossi tweeted Argentine giant Boca Juniors are “investigating the situation of Facundo Pellistri.” Fregossi concluded a loan exit is very much a possibility.
The prospect of joining one of South America’s biggest clubs could appeal to Pellistri.
Boca (35) are second only to River Plate (38) in domestic Argentine titles. Furthermore, their six Copa Libertadores successes places them second behind only Independiente with seven.
If a concrete offer does come in from Boca Juniors, Pellistri will have a tough decision to make.
If Pellistri does join Boca, he’d also be linking up with former Man Utd striker and Uruguay legend, Edinson Cavani.
Cavani signed with Boca on Saturday evening after seeing his contract at Valencia terminated a year early.
