Kaine Kesler-Hayden warns former Huddersfield Town teammates of Plymouth threat
The Terriers will already know what to expect from Plymouth Argyle’s Aston Villa loanee Kaine Kesler-Hayden when he makes his competitive debut at Home Park on Saturday afternoon – but he has warned his former teammates that manager Steven Schumacher wants him to be more ruthless with his output in the final third.
The flying full-back spent the first half on last season on loan at Huddersfield Town and was more noted for his work in attack than anything else, but his late winner away to Preston North End on Boxing Day and an assist for Jordan Rhodes to score against Rotherham United three days later were the only times he notched tallies in either column.
Kesler-Hayden returned to Villa Park shortly thereafter, and he has been sent back out to the Championship for the new campaign, joining Schumacher’s newly-promoted Pilgrims side as their first summer signing in late June.
The 20 year old told Plymouth Live: “The way the gaffer wants me to play is to get forward when I can, and I tried to do that. I will try to get goals and assists because I think that’s what I need to add to my game.”

The right-back was in action against another of his former clubs at the weekend, playing the full 90 minutes in a 4-3-3 in a pre-season friendly against Swindon Town but ending up on the wrong side of a 3-1 defeat.
Kesler-Hayden added: “It was great to be back at the County Ground and see it again, but I think the performance wasn’t the best. We could definitely see things we need to improve on. It was good we got it out the way before the season starts.
“It’s back to the training pitch. That’s what pre-season is for, and it’s a new shape we are still learning. I’m sure we will get it by next week. We will do our best in training to make it perfect.”
