Everton tipped to use £70m-rated star in swap deal for Man Utd flop Erik ten Hag wants to sell

Everton are interested in signing Harry Maguire this summer and Man Utd are reportedly interested in Amadou Onana going the other way as part of the deal.

Maguire has been relinquished of the Red Devil’s captaincy by Erik ten Hag and has been linked with a departure for some time.

West Ham United are still firmly in the race for the England international. They have already seen one bid rejected for the centre-back, but they have now returned with an improved offer – believed to be in the region of £30m.

Everton, however, have also emerged as contenders for Maguire’s signature, with Sean Dyche looking to improve his defence.

The Merseyside club have two fewer centre-backs than they did last season as it stands. Yerry Mina has left the club after the expiry of his contract and Conor Coady’s loan spell came to an end at the end of the campaign.

Maguire has fallen down the pecking order at Man Utd after the arrivals of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez. A switch to Everton would likely see him become a consistent starter again, so it could be a positive move for his career.

The 30-year-old also has an excellent relationship with fellow England international and Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Previously speaking to EnglandFootball.com, Pickford said of the defender: “Harry is one of my best mates in football and I have played with him throughout my England career so far.”

“Myself and Harry have a great relationship. The majority of my caps have been with Harry playing in front of me and we work really well together. Our defensive record with Harry playing there is really good as well and he is in a very good moment,” Pickford added in a separate interview.

Unfortunately for Everton, they do not have a lot of money to spend this summer. Any deal for Maguire could therefore see one of their players move the other way.

As suggested by _the Mirror, _Man Utd would consider an Everton bid for Maguire if Onana was allowed to make a switch to Old Trafford.

The Belgium international arrived at Goodison Park for a fee of approximately £33m last summer. The midfielder was one of the few bright sparks of a dismal 2022/23 campaign for the Toffees.

The 21-year-old made 33 Premier League appearances last term, scoring one goal and making two assists.

Standing at 6ft4, he is an imposing figure on the pitch, with the ability to play as a defensive, central or attacking midfielder. Onana is only expected to improve as he gains experience, too.

Everton reportedly value Onana at approximately £70m. Man Utd could therefore potentially use Maguire in a part-exchange or swap deal for the towering centre-mid.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Dyche entertains the possibility of allowing Onana to join Man Utd this summer.
