Aaron Ramsey transfer expected to be completed as ‘final details’ emerge

1 minute read

A deal that will see Aston Villa midfielder Aaron Ramsey move to Burnley is expected to go through, according to the latest reports.

The 20-year-old was first linked with a permanent move away from Villa Park last week, with newly-promoted Burnley attempting to complete a deal. He impressed on loan in the Championship last season, and could now get his chance in the Premier League.

It has been reported that a £12 million transfer that will see Ramsey move to Turf Moor is ‘close. The agreement includes a buy-back clause that Villa could activate should the academy graduate impress in the Premier League.

The Athletic now report that a deal is “expected”, with talks happening over the “final details”. The details are said to include personal terms and the buy-back clause inserted into the deal.

Burnley are likely to offer the midfielder more regular playing time in the Premier League than he would get at Villa Park. The Clarets returned to the Premier League as Championship champions at first attempt last season.

Ramsey has come up through the youth teams at Villa, alongside older brother Jacob, who is now a regular in the club’s first team. Aaron has made one first team appearance in a Villa shirt, coming on as a second half substitute in the 6-0 Carabao Cup win over Barrow in August 2021.

He spent the first half of last season on loan with Norwich City, where he played under former Villa manager Dean Smith. He then spent the second half of the campaign with Middlesbrough, who he helped to qualify for the play-offs at the end of the season, losing out to Coventry City at the semi-final stage.
