Leeds United are in advanced talks with Norwich City for Max Aarons with both the full-back and Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon in line to join the club ahead of Saturday’s clash with Birmingham City.

Leeds are close to securing a permanent deal for Aarons having reached an agreement to take Rodon on a season-long loan from Spurs, signings which would significantly strengthen their backline.

Aarons, who played for Leeds head coach Daniel Farke at Norwich, is under contract at Carrow Road but looking for a move this summer having been with the Norfolk side for almost a decade.

The 23-year-old is a former England Under-21 international and was part of both of the squads which won promotion under Farke at Elland Road.

He is recognised as a right-back, where Leeds already have Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh, but can also play on the left side of defence.

United are confident of finalising the transfer and are also looking to wrap up centre-back Rodon’s arrival before they head to St Andrews’ on Saturday.

The club lost captain and central defender Liam Cooper to injury for eight weeks at the weekend and have moved rapidly to secure reinforcements in the aftermath of Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Cardiff City.

Aarons and Rodon would take their summer signings to five, following the arrivals of Ethan Ampadu, Karl Darlow and Sam Byram.

United remain keen on Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer but Coventry are holding out for a high price for the talented Dutchman.

Tyler Adams, meanwhile, continues to be close to a move to Chelsea.
