Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed that Romeo Lavia’s chances of joining Chelsea have just increased as of today.

He took to Twitter to state that Liverpool’s interest in Moises Caicedo has had a direct impact on the future of the Southampton man.

Chelsea had a bid rejected a couple of days ago to try and sign Lavia, with it being rejected by the Saints for his services as they seek their asking price.

It has been claimed that they are waiting for £50m for the sale, with no bid yet reaching that figure.

They were battling Liverpool for his signature, however they may be set to withdraw their interest after what happened last night.

It has been widely reported that they have had a bid accepted to sign Caicedo, who looked destined for a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

However, they were hesitant to hit a fee that now looks like it is going to be a British transfer record.

Tavolieri has claimed that this news has seen Lavia’s move to Chelsea look even more likely.

He said: “Liverpool agrees a £111m deal for Moises Caicedo tonight. It was a transfer expected to move on his future last night… it happened.

“Be careful until the end because you are not immune of a last-minute bid from Chelsea for the Brighton midfielder as this transfer window seems unstable but…

“This transfer hijack will have a direct impact on Romeo Lavia’s future now more likely to join Chelsea. More news to follow.”

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea do make another bid to try and compete with Liverpool’s for Caicedo, however it does seem as if they are destined to move on to other targets this summer.
