Tyrone Mings sends message to Newcastle after suffering horrendous injury

2 minute read

Saturday saw Newcastle United humiliate Aston Villa with a 5-1 hammering at St James’ Park but there was a key moment in the game that’s going to have a lasting impact.

The opening twenty minutes or so was quite even between Newcastle and Aston Villa on Saturday. Newcastle took the lead on six minutes only for Villa to equalise five minutes later. Then just four minutes after that Newcastle were back in front.

It was an end-to-end contest that had goals written all over it. However, unfortunately for Villa, their captain Tyrone Mings went down under a challenge from Alexander Isak and stayed down. It wasn’t Isak’s fault by any means, even in slowed down replays it was hard to see what actually happened.

Mings looked to be in absolute agony on the St James’ Park turf

Mings looked to be in agony from the second he hit the deck, eventually being stretchered off the field to rapturous applause from both away and home fans, he was then sent to the RVI in Newcastle at half time for further checks.

It was a moment that quite possibly changed the entire outcome of the game as the moments following Mings’ departure were played at a much more subdued pace, and when things did pick up again it seemed like Villa were lost without Mings. From then on, it was completely Newcastle’s game.

This morning Aston Villa released a statement to say that Mings sustained a ‘significant knee injury‘ and would require surgery and lengthy rehabilitiation.

That’s a second big blow to Villa who lost Emi Buendia to a knee injury sustained in training. Newcastle fans have reached out to Mings on Twitter/X to offer well wishes.

To the players, fans & staff connected to @NUFC I also want to say thank you. The applause, the messages & the medical support I received on the day was really appreciated.

Nobody likes to see it when a player goes down in that much pain, especially when it results in a lengthy lay-off.

We all wish Mings a speedy and full recovery.
