Liverpool will not be able to rely on signing Aurelien Tchouameni as an alternative to Moises Caicedo, according to reports. Liverpool appear to have missed out on hijacking Chelsea’s move for Caicedo with the midfielder completing a medical at Stamford Bridge in a deal worth £115million.
Liverpool appear content in pushing through a deal for Romeo Lavia now with a £60m deal agreed with Southampton. But Chelsea could still hijack that agreement with Todd Boehly contemplating matching Liverpool’s offer.
If Liverpool miss out on both Caicedo and Lavia then alternative options will need to be considered. Jurgen Klopp has already admitted that he expects at least one more midfield signing before the end of the transfer window following the surprise departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool have revived their ‘interest’ in Tchouameni after they failed with an approach 12 months ago. Klopp reportedly intervened last year to try and persuade the Frenchman of a move to Anfield before Real Madrid came calling.

Liverpool’s interest in Tchouameni hasn’t gone away with it suggested they could try another approach this summer. However, the report adds that Real ‘would not consider his departure’ this summer.
Tchouameni similarly has ‘no interest in leaving’, leaving Liverpool having no look further down their list of options.

Liverpool’s need for further midfield reinforcements has grown even more following reports that Thiago Alcantara was attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League. Both Henderson and Fabinho have already left Anfield for the riches of the Middle East.
However, Klopp ruled out the potential of Thiago being the latest midfielder to leave Liverpool.
“No, there is nothing. Honestly. Thiago is now training. Nobody asked,” Klopp said. “He came in and asked about his role and we spoke.
“Super experienced player, he stepped up in that department. He has only been in team training for a week but very vocal, he is going to be very helpful for us.”
