Kane unveiled as Bayern Munich player

Harry Kane has conceded that now he is leading the line for Bayern Munich, he can play his way into becoming a legitimate and likely contender for the Ballon d’Or.

The former Tottenham talisman is gearing up for his full Bayern debut on Friday night against Werder Bremen, less than a week after his mega-money switch from Spurs. Kane joined the German giants after they forked out an eye-watering €100million deal that could rise to €120m if certain add-on incentives are met.

Kane has already admitted that the prospect of securing team silverware at Bayern was one that made the move particularly appealing, but also explained how landing some of the biggest individual awards the game has to offer would also be a nice bonus.

“If you are winning your league and the Champions League, and obviously we as England have the European Championship next summer as well… as we’ve seen with the Ballon d’Or, you have to be winning team trophies to achieve that,” the 30-year-old explained. “If I’m scoring goals and we are winning trophies then that will come into question, but it is not really what my focus is on now.

“I have always said I never want to retire and feel like I could have done more. That was a big part of the decision-making process to come to Bayern. You want to make sure you’ve pushed yourself to your limits.”

It is undeniable that the expectations and requirements that come with leading the line for Bayern are different to what they were like back at Spurs. At the Allianz Arena, trophies are essential every season and failure to lift the Bundesliga at the very least will lead to huge inquests and most likely cost manager Thomas Tuchel his job.

Therefore, there is significant pressure on Kane to deliver and help Bayern get closer to landing another Champions League. With that being said, the England captain has already insisted he isn’t too concerned by the weight of expectation.

“If you don’t win or perform well at Bayern Munich there are going to be question marks over you. I have been able to handle that over my career, whether it is with Tottenham or England.”

Kane has already had the chance to lift silverware in a Bayern shirt last Saturday in the DFL Supercup, but Tuchel’s side fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of RB Leipzig. Their newest addition started the game from the bench before being brought on midway through the second half.

League action starts on Friday night and Kane will be out to prove he has what it takes to thrive outside of the north London comfort zone that he enjoyed for so long.
