After a month of play, two first-time finalists will meet in Sydney to determine the winner of the 2023 World Cup. Spain and England are both seeking their first World Cup trophies on the women’s side and the odds have it as a virtual toss up.
On BetMGM, Spain is ever so slightly favored to lift the trophy on Sunday. Whichever team wins will become the fifth nation to win a Women’s World Cup, joining the United States (four times), Norway, Germany (twice) and Japan.

Spain vs. England
Kickoff time: 6 a.m. ET/11 a.m. BST Sunday
Venue: Stadium Australia, Sydney
Since the Americans imploded in this tournament, England and Spain have emerged as the two teams the betting market has liked the most. England was favored right after the U.S. went out, but Spain has been the tournament favorite since the quarterfinals ended.
Spain has the slightest edge in the odds on BetMGM (-120 vs. -110 for England), but that’s essentially a toss up.
England has more big match experience coming off the Euro 2022 triumph. That win also included a quarterfinal victory against Spain. La Roja led late in the second half of that one, but the Lionesses tied the match in the 84th minute and got a winner in extra time. That match was also in England whereas this one is on neutral ground.
Spain has continued to give away late leads in this tournament. The Netherlands scored in the 91st minute to tie the quarterfinal and Sweden scored in the 88th minute to tie the semifinal. Spain survived in both cases, but may have lost some confidence in closing out matches.
Both teams have had balanced attacks this tournament. Lauren Hemp, Lauren James and Alessia Russo have each scored three goals for England. Aitana Bonmatí, Jennifer Hermoso and Alba Redondo have all hit that number for Spain.
If any of those two score twice they will match Japan’s Hinata Miyazawa with five goals at the top of the scoring list for the tournament. Sweden’s Amanda Ilestedt has four goals ahead of the third-place match.
