Manchester United and Liverpool target Sofyan Amrabat has been left out of Fiorentina’s squad for the Europa Conference League amid speculation about his future.

Fiorentina are set to face Rapid Wien in the first leg of their Europa Conference League play-off tie on Thursday evening, but they will be without Amrabat. The midfielder had been included in their initial squad for the competition, but has not made the trip to Austria after being an unused substitute on the opening weekend.

Amrabat’s agent Mahmoud El Boustati said last month the Moroccan international was likely to leave Fiorentina this summer, telling Voetbal Primeur : “Quite a few clubs are interested in Sofyan.

“It is now a matter of making the right choice. He is still just a Fiorentina player and he reported to Fiorentina on Monday. If something interesting comes up, Sofyan is open to the step, Fiorentina are too.

“There are two, three clubs that he is open to. We are assuming that [a transfer will happen].” Fiorentina chief Joe Barone admitted earlier this week the club are willing to let the player leave.

“We are always ready for other comings and goings,” he was quoted as saying by Labaro Viola when asked about Amrabat. “If there’s someone who isn’t happy, we can satisfy him between now and the end of the transfer window.”

Liverpool are looking to sign a fourth new midfielder following the additions of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo. Manchester United, meanwhile, are keen to strengthen their midfield options after selling Fred to Fenerbahce.

Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay could also follow him out the door. Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag previously managed Amrabat at Dutch club Utrecht and the pair share a strong relationship.

Speaking to ESPN earlier this year, Amrabat’s brother Nordin, who played in the Premier League for Watford, said: “My brother now has the intention to play in the top, preferably in Spain or England, I think.

“Ten Hag is now looking for a striker, he wants that first. From there he will see what is possible. But I know that Ten Hag is charmed by my brother, he broke through under him and they have a good relationship, so who knows.”
