How do I become a member of the group chat?
To become a member, you’ll need to submit some basic info to our entry form, have a read of our privacy policy and terms of use, and then follow some additional instructions to be added to the group. A few steps, we grant you, but well worth it!
How will ‘Insiders’ be selected?
We’re operating on a first come, first served basis, so act quick! This offer is limited to 1,000 Insiders.
When is the group active?
You can apply before Tuesday the 29th of August and we kick off our exclusive group chat on Thursday 31st of August until the end of the transfer on Friday 1st of September.
If it’s a group chat, does that mean that other people will be able to see my number?
No. We’ll be sending messages via WhatsApp Broadcast, which means only The Athletic will have access to your information. Once the transfer window closes, your info will be removed from our database.
Can I opt out of receiving messages?
Of course. Just reply to any of our messages via WhatsApp at any time to let us know and we’ll remove you from the group.
Will The Athletic respond to my messages in return?
Whilst we welcome questions relating to the beautiful game, we can’t promise that all will receive a response.
What happens if I share the group chat number with my mate?
Unfortunately, only those who have entered by the official route will be eligible to join The Athletic’s Insiders Group Chat and receive our breaking news broadcasts. Numbers are limited to 1,000, as indicated, so if you do want to get a mate in on the action, share this page with them so they can sign up the official way!
How many bits of breaking news can I expect to receive?
As a fellow football fan, you’ll know that the transfer window can be unpredictable, but we’ll be sharing updates as and when we have them.
