Erik ten Hag praised his side’s character to battle back and win against Forest

Manchester United are running out of time to bring in further reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut.

The Red Devils have already spent big this summer to bring in Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Andre Onana, but Erik ten Hag wants to bring in more new faces with United facing some injury problems after an indifferent start to the season.

They have picked up six points from their first three games, but have failed to convince with their performances against Wolves, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest. United are said to be keen to strengthen both in midfield and defence, while several players could be on their way out.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest transfer news and gossip from Old Trafford…

Bayern swap deal

According to Bild, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are in talks over a swap deal involving Scott McTominay and Ryan Gravenberch.

Gravenberch has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, having played for Ten Hag at Ajax, while Thomas Tuchel wants another defensive midfielder and is considering a swoop for McTominay.

The report states that Bayern are only interested in a loan deal for McTominay and would be willing to loan Gravenberch to United in return. The Dutchman is said to be ‘unhappy with his playing time’ at Bayern, but the Bundesliga giants do not want to sell him.

Henry move considered

United are hoping to sign a new left-back with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia currently out injured.

And the Daily Mail state that Brentford’s Rico Henry is among a number of players being targeted by the Red Devils. It is claimed United have ‘made initial checks into Henry’s situation and potential availability’.

However, Brentford would be ‘more open’ to selling Henry at the end of the season given there is now less than a week until the transfer window closes and they do not have an obvious replacement for him

Maguire stance

Raphael Varane suffered an injury in the game against Forest that could mean Harry Maguire stays at United.

According to talkSPORT, ‘United have no interest in letting Maguire leave this summer’ as a result of Varane’s injury. Maguire had been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer after falling down the pecking order and being stripped of the captaincy, but a switch to West Ham ultimately fell through.

There had been suggestions the Hammers would revisit the move in the final week of the transfer window, but the report states that United are now set to reject any approaches for the England international.
