Erik ten Hag praised his side’s character to battle back and win against Forest

Sofyan Amrabat has completed his deadline day move to Manchester United to link up with Erik ten Hag for a second time.

The Morocco midfielder has joined for a loan fee of £8.5million, with United having agreed to an option to buy him for £21.5m next summer if he impresses.

Amrabat is well-known to United boss Erik ten Hag, who worked with the Dutch-born star at Utrecht in the Eredivisie. He is one of three deadline day arrivals, along with goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and left-back Sergio Reguilon as Ten Hag completes his summer business.

Amrabat, 27, has been on Fiorentina’s books since 2020. He helped the Viola reach the final of last season’s Europa Conference League, and was also part of the Morocco side which reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

United aren’t the only side from the Premier League to express an interest. Liverpool have also been linked in the past, while Fulham explored a move for Amrabat, but he was determined to push through a switch to Old Trafford.

Amrabat said: “It is a huge honour to become a Manchester United player. I’ve had to be patient for this moment but I’m someone who always listens to my heart and now I am representing the club of my dreams.

“I am a passionate player; I want to bring that energy to the squad, and I will put everything into every action I take for the team. I know exactly how Erik ten Hag likes to work and what he needs from his players.

“His coaching and guidance developed me so much as a player earlier in my career; I know that he will help to bring out the best of my abilities so that I can help the group to be successful this season.”
