Tottenham confirm Brennan Johnson transfer in £47.5m move from Nottingham Forest
Tottenham have confirmed their ninth and final signing of the summer transfer window as Ange Postecoglou lands the exciting Wales international forward in a massive £47.5million deal

Brennan Johnson has completed a £47.5m move from Nottingham Forest to Tottenham.
Tottenham reinvested a huge chunk of their £100m gained from the sale of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich on a busy day for Spurs. Johnson, 22, has signed a five-year contract with a 12-month option and fits the bill perfectly for Ange Postecoglou’s style of play.
Wales forward Johnson, 22, is quick, versatile and hard-working, which suits ‘Ange ball’ down to the ground and also gives Tottenham more options in attack. But they could not complete a deal for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher despite strong interest as Pierre-Emile Hoijberg ended up staying put as moves to Fulham and Atletico Madrid fell through.
It still looks as if Tottenham are spending the Kane cash wisely this time after blowing their £85m windfall from Gareth Bale’s sale in 2013 on six duds and Christian Eriksen.
For a start, James Maddison - albeit he arrived before Kane departed - could prove to be one of the bargains of the summer after his £40m move from Leicester. And in typical Daniel Levy fashion, the Tottenham chairman left it late to do more eye-catching business in the transfer window.
Johnson is young, British and full of promise rather than the likes of Nacer Chadli, Paulinho, Vlad Chiriches, Etienne Capoue, Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado who arrived in 2013.
This time, Tottenham seem determined to invest the cash wisely and, despite losing one of the best strikers in the world, they are determined to try and raise the overall level of the squad. Postecoglou has been all about pace, speed and movement which is why he wanted to reshape the squad using the Kane cash.
Italian keeper Guglielmo Vicario looks a good buy at £17.2m and Micky van de Ven has started well after his £28m move from Wolfsburg. They have been ready to offload Eric Dier and Hoijberg to give the midfield a makeover but struggling to get those deals done have only held up the new arrivals.

That is arguably why Tottenham have left it late again in the market but the squad - and indeed the team - already looks more balanced, more dangerous and has more potential.
They do lack a prolific goalscorer - and who wouldn’t struggle to replace Kane - but it is down to Johnson, Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski and Heung-Min Son to share the responsibility to get goals. Also, they have in Maddison a bright, effusive and hard-working player who can chip in with goals and assists.
So far, Tottenham have looked highly promising this season, drawing at Brentford on the opening weekend and then beating Manchester United and Bournemouth. It will get tougher this season and the point is that they have tried to bring more numbers, quality and versatility to their squad.
Postecoglou has got the fans excited and, even though they have had to spend big to get Johnson, he is one of British football’s most exciting talents.
