Getafe manager Jose Bordalas says that the club wants to “help” Mason Greenwood after the Spanish club signed the Manchester United forward on loan.

Greenwood had been subject to an internal investigation from United since February when the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) discontinued its case against him for attempted rape, assault, and coercive control. He denied all the alleged offences.

The Athletic reported yesterday that the 21-year-old, who garnered interest from several clubs in the Premier League, Italy, Germany, and Spain, had joined the La Liga side on a season-long loan.

Greenwood was available for transfer after United confirmed on August 21 that they had abandoned their plan to bring the forward back into the first-team squad and they were working with the player to find a new club to restart his career.

When asked about the signing of the forward Bordalas said: “It is too delicate a situation to trivialize this issue. Everyone knows what happened and the appropriate measures were taken. Everyone knows how it ended; with a non-conviction.

“He is a footballer of a very high level and comes to Getafe with enormous enthusiasm. For our part, we want to help him”

“I have already told my partner what I had to tell him. I can only talk about soccer. We all know the potential he has, he is a very young kid. Because of the potential he has, if he improves his soccer, he can improve.

“We talked to him and he wanted to improve his status and we can help him in that sense”

Getafe fell to a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid after a 95th-minute winner from new-singing Jude Bellingham, his fifth goal in four games since joining the club earlier this summer from Borussia Dortmund.

Greenwood has not played since January 22, 2022 and was unavailable to make his debut at the Santiago Bernabeu as his transfer had not been registered in time.
