Manchester United defender Sergio Reguilon has become reunited with two of his former team-mates since completing his loan move to Old Trafford.
Casemiro and Raphael Varane were both at Real Madrid when Reguilon made his Los Blancos bow in 2018, having progressed his way through the Spanish club’s youth ranks.
After joining United for the 2023/24 campaign from Tottenham on Friday, Sergio has reconvened with the duo that he played with at the Bernabeu before his 2020 transfer to Spurs.
Naturally, they were among the first Reds to greet Reguilon upon his arrival in Manchester last week.
“When I arrived, they were there to welcome me,” divulged Sergio, in his exclusive first interview as a United player.
“They have given me [some help with] the houses and also life in Manchester.
“For me, I knew many players before, like Bruno [Fernandes] and [Andre] Onana, so I know some people here already.”The 26-year-old therefore has some welcome familiarity in his new surroundings. And as well as making him acquainted with some of his United colleagues, his journey in football has also made him fully aware of what is expected at a club as big as United.
Our new signing has already represented the likes of Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Tottenham Hotspur and, of course, Real Madrid in recent years.
He arrived at United with 230 career appearances to his name, some trophy-winning experience and six international caps for Spain.
“I think you have to have a winning mentality, because it is impossible to play for these types of teams if you don’t,” Reguilon explained to us.
“If your team-mates are at that top level, you have to be at that same level.”
Sergio will wear the no.15 jersey during his time with the Reds - and it’s available to order now from United Direct.
