Jadon Sancho to train away from Man Utd squad until ‘discipline issue’ resolved
Erik ten Hag has insisted that his Manchester United predecessors are to blame for the “no good culture” at the club in the wake of his public feud with Jadon Sancho.
Ten Hag, 53, was appointed by the Red Devils last summer following Ralf Rangnick’s underwhelming interim reign. The highly-rated German coach had stepped in after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked in November 2021 but was unable to cultivate the desired turnaround in atmosphere both on and off the pitch during his time at the helm.
The culture at Old Trafford has been under the spotlight once again this week after Sancho was banished from first-team training by Ten Hag. The Dutchman made the decisions after the forward publicly lashed out at him on social media prior to the international break.
Sancho insisted that Ten Hag’s claims over his poor training standards were “untrue” before outlining how he has been made a “scapegoat”. Unsurprisingly, those comments did not go down well with the Manchester United chief.
Ten Hag was reluctant to be drawn on the Sancho saga in his press conference on Friday, but that didn’t prevent him from taking a swipe at the toxic environment he walked into last summer. He said: “I think everything is said [about Sancho]. As I said, the squad is strong, good spirit, good mood going into the game.
“They [the players] are very good because you have sometimes setbacks in seasons, players are injured, other reasons, they are not available, therefore you construct a squad. The squad is very good and the players are motivated to give a good performance.

“Strict line is the point. The club asked me because there was a no-good culture before the end of last season to set some standards and that’s what I did. It’s my job to control the standards.
“Of course, it’s never someone when they make one mistake, it’s a whole process before you come to a certain outcome about strict lines. If staff, players or whatever, who, if there’s a structure to cross lines, you have to be strong, absolutely.”
Sancho will not feature against Brighton, nor will he be considered for first-team selection until a resolution is found to the “squad discipline issue”, per a statement from Manchester United on Thursday.
