Alan Shearer and Rio Ferdinand have both hammered the Glazers amid Manchester United’s poor start to the season.

The Red Devils lost for the third time in five outings as they were beaten by Brighton, their first reverse at Old Trafford after two unconvincing home wins. Questions are being asked of Erik ten Hag and his team, who don’t look to have progressed on last year.

United’s failings come amid continued uncertainty around the club’s ownership with the Glazers remaining absent and silent. The Americans signalled their intent to explore new revenue streams last year, whilst they also touted the possibility of selling up.

They’ve remain quiet since then with no communication as to what their intentions are, which has not been well received. Shearer told The Rest Is Football podcast: “I’m not saying it’s all their fault, because it shouldn’t effect what happens on the pitch, but at whatever level you’re at, what happens at the very top or an organisation always drip-feeds itself down on to the shop floor.

“This is what is happening at Manchester United and it will continue to happen until the very top [the Glazer family] sort themselves out. Whether that’s selling the club, whatever it is. Is it for sale? Is it not for sale? Until that gets sorted out I think they will suffer and they will continue to suffer.”

Ferdinand, who played at the club when the Americans were at the helm, has also criticised their lack of updates. He isn’t the only member of Sir Alex Ferguson’s former team to hold such frustrations with Gary Neville particularly vocal on social media.

Speaking on YouTube show FIVE, he said: “These owners, the Glazers, I don’t care what they say now, since June we’ve not heard anything. Even then it was tepid. Communication in any line of work in any business is vital for it to flourish and proposer and to function properly.

“Their lack of communication has been deafening. It’s been disgraceful in my eyes because you’ve got a fanbase, an institution, a club, a staff, players, a manager who to work at their best need the comms to be right, to understand it.”

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani have been the two parties to lodge bids as they look to purchase the Premier League club. There is still no word as to whether they’ve been successful with the Glazers looking to maximise their profits.
