Arsenal stormed into a 3-0 lead against Champions League rivals PSV at the Emirates on Wednesday thanks to goals from Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus
Ian Wright loved Arsenal’s opening goal against PSV
Ian Wright described Arsenal’s first Champions League goal in seven seasons as “ELITE” - as they enjoyed a dream first half against PSV.
Mikel Arteta’s side were beaten 2-0 by the Dutch side last October, but they had no such problems during the opening 45 minutes of Wednesday’s game. Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus all scored to give Arsenal a commanding lead at the Emirates.
Arsenal legend Wright loved his ex-club’s display and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to praise the build up to Saka’s goal. The Gunners completed several passes before Martin Odegaard’s strike rebounded to Saka to score the opener.
“WILLIAM SALIBA!” tweeted Wright - highlighting the defender’s role in the build up to the goal - before adding: “Watch the full build up kmt! (kiss my teeth) ELITE!”
Wright would’ve been even happier when Trossard doubled Arsenal’s lead in the 20th minute. The Belgian, who replaced the injured Gabriel Martinelli in the starting XI, finished off a brilliant counter-attack by stroking Saka’s low cross into the bottom corner.
Jesus then made it 3-0 shortly before half-time by controlling Trossard’s cross and pinging an effort into the net. Arteta warned his players not to be scared of playing in the Champions League, as many of them made their debut in the competition on Wednesday.
He told reporters: “I went from playing in the second division (in Spain) and a week later I was playing with Paris Saint-Germain in the San Siro, looking at (AC Milan legends Paolo) Maldini, (Alessandro) Costacurta - and I was scared… They all looked immaculate.

“I was just a 17-year-old boy (thinking), ‘I don’t know if I am ready for this! The lesson probably is that you feel like this, (but) once you are on the pitch, just do what you do every single day and treat it in a natural way. Go for it, like we always do.”
Arteta also expressed his joy at Arsenal being back in the Champions League. He added: “It’s been a long time for the club since we’ve been in the competition and obviously the first time for me as a manager as well. Really looking forward to it.
“Yes, and we’ve been chasing it and fighting for it and now we’ve got it. Now we have to make the most out of it and it starts at home. I’m sure our all supporters will be really excited for it and to manage that and to as well enjoy the challenge.”
