Manchester United head to Turf Moor to play Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday night looking to put an end to a run of three straight defeats in all competitions

Erik ten Hag has been warned that he faces a “crisis” at Manchester United if he loses against Burnley on Saturday night.

United are currently on a three-match losing streak having returned from Munich following a 4-3 defeat by Bayern in the Champions League on Wednesday. The loss followed 3-1 reverses against Arsenal and Brighton in the Premier League which have turned up the pressure on Ten Hag.

The club had not lost three games in a row since under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over four years ago. Ten Hag’s side have conceded 14 goals in their last five matches, with injuries severely hampering selection.

United travel to Turf Moor this weekend to play Burnley and the Clarets manager Vincent Kompany is hoping to heap more pressure on Ten Hag’s shoulders. “I have been at a big club when you lose a couple and the pressure can mount. Our focus is on the pitch,” Kompany said.

“We’ve had three games against three of the top eight sides in this league. I’m really looking forward to this game in terms of seeing if we’ve made those steps forward and I really believe in the attacking threat we have.

“We’re not busy with what’s happening with the other team. It doesn’t concern us. I have to manage our team and our performances. We’re a calm camp, a place where there’s something exciting ahead of us and we want to build on that momentum.

“What is happening elsewhere is not really our concern. When you’re at a top club, you’re always one loss away from a crisis, it’s not just United, it’s every top club. Being a manager is no different to being a manager in any other environment.

“You always need time to adapt and improve. It’s not just for Erik ten Hag, it’s for all of us and one thing this manager has demonstrated is he’s extremely capable. There’s absolutely no doubting that.”

United are 13th in the Premier League, having won just two of their five league games so far this season. They are without Jadon Sancho, who was been booted out of the first-team squad for disciplinary reasons and Antony, who has been told to stay away while he defends himself against allegations of physical assault against an ex-girlfriend.

Meanwhile, they are missing key players like Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Burnley are 19th, with a solitary point, but may fancy their chances against an out-of-form United side.

Asked whether it’s a good time to play United, Kompany said: “It depends on how you look at it. My concern is with what we must do and in my opinion, I have to prepare my team to play against the best possible Manchester United team, with momentum, with ambition and with all the problems behind them.

“If they turn up in a different way, then we’ll see but I prepare my team for what I’ve seen them do when they’re at their best and we have to find solutions for that.”
