Man Utd were ‘hours’ away from losing transfer target to Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp chat

Manchester United ‘s latest debutant Dan Gore has underlined the need to prove himself in training amid the ongoing standoff between Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho.

Gore, who turned 19 this week, made his debut off the bench during United’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup. He’s the latest academy graduate to appear for the first-team and is desperate to ensure his cameo is not a flash in the pan.

The teenager has been able to enhance his development by operating alongside the club’s established stars on a daily basis. One of those who isn’t present is Jadon Sancho, a man who cost the club £73m, as he continues his feud with Ten Hag, who criticised his training performances.

Gore is fully aware that, if more minutes are to come his way, it is on the pitch at Carrington that he must impress. He said: “That is the aim, but it happens in training. You have to work hard every day in training and then, hopefully, the opportunities come your way.”

United have started the season poorly, losing three of their six games with their performances by no means convincing. Despite that they have star quality in the likes of Marcus Rashford, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes with Gore desperate to make the most of them.

He added: “I think being around world-class players, day in and day out, has really helped me improve my game a lot. You grow up watching these players, so to play with them… you watch them on TV winning the Champions League, it is actually surreal.”

Sancho is one man who he won’t have been training alongside with the winger currently banned from the first-team, instead being forced to train with the club’s youth ranks. He took issue with Ten Hag citing his below par training displays as the reason for leaving him out in the loss against Arsenal several weeks ago.

The winger quickly responded to his manager’s comments on social media, claiming they were “completely untrue” and he’d “been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair”. That outburst hasn’t gone down well with the United boss with a route back into the team by no means guaranteed.

Talk of Sancho potentially leaving Manchester is gathering momentum with Ten Hag claiming he “doesn’t talk about players who are out of favour.” The 23-year-old isn’t the only man to face public criticism from the United boss, who claimed Alejandro Garnacho’s “contributions were not good enough” so far this season.
