Mason Greenwood scored his first goal for Getafe during Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo in La Liga.

Greenwood put his side 2-1 up in the 33rd minute as he drifted unmarked to the back post and sent Borja Mayoral’s low cross into the roof of the net.

It was his first goal since he scored for Manchester United during their 3-1 win against Brentford on January 19 2022.

The 22-year-old was making his fifth Getafe appearance since joining the club on loan from United on deadline day.

The result leaves Getafe 11th in La Liga after two wins and four draws from their opening nine matches.

Borja Mayoral had given Getafe the lead inside two minutes at Estadio de Balaidos before Jonathan Bamba levelled for Celta Vigo.

Getafe had to play over an hour with 10 players following Domingos Duarte’s dismissal but despite being a man down, Greenwood put the visitors ahead shortly after.

Jorgen Strand Larsen drew Celta Vigo level on the stroke of half time and neither side could find a winner in the second period as the game finished 2-2, with Greenwood withdrawn on the hour.

Greenwood was made available for transfer after United confirmed on August 21 that they had abandoned their plan to bring the forward back into the first-team squad.

He had been subject to an internal investigation from United since February when the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) discontinued its case against him for attempted rape, assault, and coercive control. He denied all the alleged offences.

Getafe return to action on October 21 with the visit of Real Betis.
