Kane explains decision to join Bayern over Premier League interest

Harry Kane has admitted he will “always keep an eye” on Tottenham after Daniel Levy confirmed a buy-back clause was included in the deal that took him to Bayern Munich.

Kane, 30, left his boyhood club in the summer transfer window just 12 months after trying to engineer a move to Manchester City last year. And although Spurs stood firm then, this time around they reluctantly cashed in on their talisman, who would have been free to walk away for nothing next summer at the end of his contract.

Despite losing their star striker on the eve of the season, Tottenham have flourished under the guidance of new head coach Ange Postecoglou. Spurs are currently top of the Premier League - and Kane, who left in a bid to finally win silverware, made it clear he was over the moon for his old club ahead of England’s meeting with Australia.

Speaking to the media, the England captain said: “It’s great to see. I think I’ve said before, the manager is doing great for them with the way they’re playing. The fans are right behind the team and it’s definitely what they needed after the last few years.

“I’ll always keep an eye on Spurs and the Premier League. Of course, there’s still along way to go, but like the manager said, there’s no reason why the fans shouldn’t be excited and happy with the way things are going. Hopefully they can continue.

“I have made it clear my whole career I am a Tottenham fan and I would love to see Tottenham do well. There is no other team in the Premier League I would want to win than Tottenham.

“Also, I have to be respectful to Bayern Munich and of course, the fans know I will always have a soft spot for Spurs - there is no question about that - but I have got to put all my attention on Bayern Munich and to make us as successful as possible.”

Kane’s comments are unlikely to dampen speculation from some fans that Kane will seek to return to Spurs in the future. Levy, Tottenham’s chairman, confirmed at a fans forum last month that the club included a buy-back clause in the £100million that took Kane to Germany in August.

However, the specifics of the clause have since been outlined by Sky Sports News, who explain that Tottenham, effectively, have a first refusal option should Bayern Munich accept any bid for Kane in the future.

Kane signed a four-year deal with the German champions and has already reiterated his desire to win silverware with his new side.
