The first round sees the introduction of teams from League One and Two, with the Premier League and Championship teams joining from the third round in the New Year.
Seventh tier Bracknell Town had caused perhaps the biggest shock of the fourth qualifying round when they beat Dagenham & Redbridge of the National League to reach the first round for the third time in their history, and second successive season. In a live televised tie, Kameron English scored the winner in injury time to secure the win.
Elsewhere, Chester stunned Hartlepool United with a 2-0 win and there were also surprise victories for Hereford over Rochdale, Marine against Halifax Town and Horsham over Dorking Wanderers.
