Erling Haaland celebrates goalImage source, Getty Images

Commentator Connor McNamara discussing Erling Haaland’s latest goalscoring record on BBC Radio 5 Live : “By Haaland’s standards it’s been strange he hasn’t scored [recently], coming into this game he hadn’t scored in six Champions League games.

“The latter stages of last season when they were in those semi-finals and final, all the attention was on Erling Haaland, but he didn’t get goals in those marquee games and then this was his third Champions League game of this new campaign and he finally does get those two goals.

“The first goal he dispatched from the penalty spot, but the second goal was really good which he controlled in the penalty area and then a little nudge with his left foot to wrong foot the defender, then with his right foot he just curled it into the far corner – the sort of goal that Erling Haaland scores and a goal that no keeper is going to save.

“His numbers are just ridiculous. That’s 37 goals in 33 Champions League appearances and tonight he has overtaken [Kylian] Mbappe in being the youngest to ever get to 37 goals in the competition, the records just keep falling and falling.”
