David Beckham has hailed Sir Bobby Charlton as the man who started his football journey in a moving tribute to Manchester United legend.
The club icon has been commemorated over the past week, with United heroes past and present praising his career, character and life. Beckham outlined his admiration for Sir Bobby at the 2023 Ballon d’Or awards ceremony where he paid an emotional tribute to the United and England legend.
It comes as United have now confirmed plans for Sir Bobby’s memorial service, with fans certain to pay their respects. And the plans have confirmed they will have the opportunity to do so at Old Trafford - with the procession to Manchester Cathedral set to go past the United stadium.

David Beckham pays tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton
Beckham has said he owes Sir Bobby Charlton ‘everything’ after paying an emotional tribute to the club legend at Monday night’s Ballon d’Or awards ceremony in Paris.
Charlton, who made 758 appearances for the Reds, died on October 21 at the age of 86. The club continued to pay its respects to the former captain ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby against City at Old Trafford.
The former midfielder, who helped England win the World Cup in 1966, was adored by everyone associated with the Reds and the wider football world.

Sir Bobby Charlton memorial service details
Manchester United have confirmed a memorial service is to be held for Sir Bobby Charlton at Manchester Cathedral.
The Manchester United icon passed away on October 21 at the age of 86. Charlton made 758 appearances for United and won the European Cup in 1968 as well as the World Cup with England in 1966.
Tributes for the legendary figure have been pouring in over the last nine days, with United moving to pay tribute ahead of their home matches against FC Copenhagen and Manchester City. The area in front of the Trinity Statue at Old Trafford - which depicts Charlton alongside his heroic teammates George Best and Denis Law - has been covered with floral tributes as well as memorabilia from countless clubs.
Around 80,000 people have also signed the books of condolences, both online and in person, and mourners are being given another chance to celebrate Charlton’s remarkable life in an upcoming memorial service. The service will take place at Manchester Cathedral on Monday, November 13 at 2pm.
