It does not get much better than an away victory in the Manchester derby. A victory in which City totally dominated United, were the best in every department and a game that clearly demonstrated the gulf in quality between the two sides.

So much has been said and written, in the last day or so, about about how poor United were on Sunday, I want to focus on how good City were. I don’t think any City player had a poor game and there are four performances I’d like to highlight.

Ederson, whose distribution was magnificent and when called upon was there to make important saves.

John Stones, who not that long ago was known for his occasional howler is now truly living up to his ‘Barnsley Beckenbaur’ nickname, effortlessly switching from centre back to midfield and back again whenever required.

Bernardo Silva, who at the end of the past three seasons has seemed a certainty to leave the Etihad, has stayed and got better and better. He covered every blade of grass at the weekend and was so influential in the one sided win.

Finally Jack Grealish, who has been out with an injury and has not been a regular starter following some excellent displays on the wing by Jeremy Doku following his recent transfer from Rennes. Well, Jack was back to his best on Sunday linking up with Silva to great effect.

I said it doesn’t get much better… and then Manchester City go and win men’s club of the year at the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony, Erling Haaland won the Gert Muller award after scoring the most goals in world football last season, and out of the top five men’s players, three are from Manchester City.

How much better can it get?
