Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is hoping to bring in some more players this summer after signing England international Mason Mount from Chelsea in a £60million deal
Erik ten Hag is in the middle of a busy summer at Manchester United
It’s been a quiet summer for Manchester United so far.
The Red Devils have made just one major signing in Mason Mount, while David de Gea is the only key member of Erik ten Hag’s side to leave Old Trafford. United’s recruitment team will need to get busy if they are to build a competitive squad for the new season.
United finished third in the Premier League and won the Carabao Cup last season, but their fans know that’s not good enough for a club of their stature. They will be desperate to close the gap between themselves and Manchester City, the champions of Europe.
But who are United interested in signing this summer? Here are the latest headlines and transfer rumours from Old Trafford…
Heaton nearing exit
Luton are confident of signing United goalkeeper Tom Heaton, according to The Sun. Ten Hag only has two senior stoppers in his squad - Heaton and Dean Henderson - following the De Gea’s exit earlier this month. The latter left after his contract expired.
With a pre-season tour to the United States just around the corner, Ten Hag will not want to lose Heaton, 37, and Henderson, 26, too. Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Henderson on a permanent transfer following a loan spell last season.
It’s unclear whether United will allow Heaton to leave Old Trafford this summer. Yet it does put Ten Hag under more pressure to sign another senior goalkeeper.
Onana latest
That brings us on to Andre Onana. The 27-year-old goalkeeper is United’s first-choice target, but they are struggling to agree a transfer fee with Inter Milan. The Italian giants want £50million for Onana, but the English outfit are hoping to pay closer to £40m.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, United are close to a breakthrough in the negotiations. It’s claimed Onana will travel to Manchester as soon as possible to complete his transfer and become a United player to ease their goalkeeping concerns.
Amrabat challenge
Liverpool have rekindled their interest in United target Sofyan Amrabat, according to The Athletic. The Morocco international, 26, has just a year remaining on his contract and Fiorentina will allow him to complete a summer transfer if the price is right.
Who do you think Manchester United should sign this summer? Let us know in the comments below!
Amrabat was one of the stars of last year’s World Cup, helping his country reach the semi-finals of the tournament in Qatar. Liverpool were interested in signing him in January but failed to get a deal done. Yet it’s believed they’re keen on him again.
Liverpool will consider swooping for Amrabat if either Fabinho, Jordan Henderson or Thiago Alcantara completes a transfer to Saudi Arabia. All three players have offers on the table, with Fabinho in advanced talks with Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad.
Amrabat played under Ten Hag at Utrecht and the two still share a mutual respect. But, according to The Independent, United will need sell players before they can make a move for Amrabat. That indecision could allow Liverpool to swoop in.
