David de Gea confirms Manchester United departure
Erik ten Hag is keen to evaluate Amad in pre-season matches for Manchester United before making a decision on his future.
The Ivorian bagged 14 goals last season during a successful loan season at Sunderland and started in United’s two-goal friendly victory over Leeds last week. Amad joined United from Atalanta three years ago and it was considered that he could return to the Serie A club on loan as part of a United package to sign Rasmus Hojlund.
United are ramping up their pursuit of Denmark international Hojlund. The Red Devils are intent on signing a new central striker this summer but the player’s transfer valuation – thought to be north of £60million – had complicated a move to Old Trafford, with Amad’s return lessening the sum.
Amad is also wanted by a trio of English clubs. As outlined by the Mail, Leicester City are keen on the player but their relegation from the Premier League is unlikely to provide the ideal platform. Newly promoted clubs Sheffield United and Burnley are also thought to be keen.
The 21-year-old will form part of United’s pre-season tour to the United States and Ten Hag is keen to give him minutes and evaluate his progress first hand. This would also allow the Dutch boss to see how Amad fits into his side’s style of play.
The club are leaning towards allowing a loan exit but it would need to be a club playing at a high level where Amad would be guaranteed minutes. This complication, coupled with the player’s desire to fight for his place at United, may delay any move.

Antony is the regular starter on that side of United’s attack but despite other players being able to play in that position, few are comfortable in that role. Jadon Sancho started more from the left side of United’s attack last year while Anthony Elanga is likely to be sold this summer.
Facundo Pellistri is another option in that position but the Uruguayan’s first-team minutes at Old Trafford have been extremely limited under several managers. There is interest in the winger from Dutch club FC Twente.
United are keen to seal deals to sign goalkeeper Andre Onana and striker Hojlund before turning their focus to player exits. The club are keen to move on at least six players from their first-team squad to free up wages and raise funds for further reinforcements.
