Man Utd ‘close in’ on £26m agreement despite ‘missing out’ on key transfer windfall
Manchester United
All the latest Manchester United transfer news and rumours as Erik ten Hag prepares his men for the final round of friendlies.
Manchester United are now entering the final stage of pre-season, with Erik ten Hag’s men facing Lens and Athletic Club ahead of turning attention to the Premier League season.
The Red Devils have been busy in the summer so far, landing Mason Mount and Andre Onana, while Rasmus Hojlund will almost certainly join that list. There could yet be further arrivals, but United are going to need to trim their squad before the summer window is over and done with, with Financial Fair Play also a very real concern.
Here we round up all the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding Old Trafford.
Amrabat ‘close’
United are said to be closing in on a deal to sign Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat.
Amrabat is said to be the natural replacement for Scott McTominay, who is likely to leave the club this summer, and the Daily Mirror say a £26million deal is close to being agreed. Amrabat’s stock has been high since his performances for Morocco at the World Cup last winter, and he could form part of a double pivot for Ten Hag this season, while he would otherwise be a back-up for Casemiro.
Fiorentina have stood their ground over Amrabat this summer, but it seems United will get their man, and Fabrizio Romano has already told said as per United Stand: “Sofyan Amrabat’s priority is #mufc, he would love to join the club.”
Henderson blow
Dean Henderson has been heavily linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, but there seems to be a problem.
Henderson spent last season on loan with Forest, and it was claimed that he would be returning there permanently after United’s signing of Onana, while they have also reportedly promised Tom Heaton the number two role in the expectation of Henderson being sold. Though, according to David Ornstein, Forest are now in talks with Arsenal over keeper Matt Turner.
That could lead Forest elsewhere, while Henderson’s departure could be scuppered, at least for now.
