Transfer round-up: Hojlund on verge of sealing Manchester United move

West Ham have turned to a transfer marketplace in a desperate attempt to finally kick start their summer activity.

Fresh off winning their first trophy in a generation - and selling Declan Rice for £105 million - the Hammers were expected to be active in the market. However, with just over a week until the start of the new Premier League season, they remain the only top-flight side yet to make a single senior signing.

And the Athletic report that the club have now advertised for seven new signings of the website TransferRoom. It is suggested the Hammers have placed an advert for a left-back, centre-back, defensive midfielder, central midfielder, striker, winger and No 10.

This comes after suggestions that Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay were closing in on a move to the London Stadium.

Maguire’s future in particular has been the subject of intense speculation, with the centre back falling out of favour with Erik ten Hag last season. His lack of game time inevitably led to him being stripped of the captain’s armband this summer, with Bruno Fernandes announced as his replacement.

Despite the fall from grace, the man who cost United £80 million from Leicester back in 2019 vowed to stay at Old Trafford to fight for his place. And the club themselves seemed open to keeping him, having already rejected a £20 million offer from West Ham.

According to reports via the Express, Maguire and McTominay were said to be completing long-distance medicals with West Ham, who had in turn received past records from the Red Devils in a bid to accelerate the deals.

West Ham’s recent listing paints a different picture however, with suggestions that West Ham boss David Moyes has been left furious after being priced out of both transfers. Instead, they have set a limit of £20m for each player as they scramble to get deals over the line.

Indeed, Moyes and West Ham technical director Tim Steidten have reportedly fallen out over the manager’s desire to press on from last season’s Europa Conference League glory. And his efforts to replace Rice have hit a stumbling block, with the club also seeing a bid for James Ward-Prowse rejected by Southampton.

Two approaches for Joao Palhinha were knocked back by Fulham, inadvertently turning Moyes’ attention to McTominay. He wants any deals to be wrapped up before the season opener at Bournemouth on August 12.

Prior to that, the Hammers conclude their pre-season campaign at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. That fixture follows the 3-1 defeat at Rennes last weekend.
