‘There’s been a development’ , 26-year-old’s Forest move could now be in doubt - Sky

Nottingham Forest target Dean Henderson may have to stay at Manchester United for a little longer after fellow goalkeeper Tom Heaton picked up a calf injury.

Steve Cooper’s side have been working to get a deal done for the 26-year-old who spent last season on loan at the City Ground.

Henderson picked up a thigh in January which ended his season early, with the Reds subsequently signing PSG ‘keeper Keylor Navas as a replacement.

With the deal for the United shot-stopper taking longer than expected, Forest have signed another ‘keeper to help bolster their goalkeeping department ahead of tomorrow’s opening fixture at Arsenal.

Matt Turner, who signed from Arsenal, has taken the No 1 shirt previously worn by Henderson and looks set to start against his former club at the Emirates.

What has been said about the latest development?

Erik Ten Hag’s side are limited with options in goal.

David De Gea left the club upon the expiration of his contract, with the Red Devils signing Andre Onana as his replacement.

However, Heaton’s injury now sees Henderson as United’s only other ‘keeper available.

Speaking on Sky Sports yesterday, Dharmesh Sheth said, “We know there is a loan with an obligation to buy being discussed and what was under discussion was how many games it would take Nottingham Forest to trigger the obligation.

“Manchester United wanted a few games, whereas Forest wanted more, simply because of the injury he suffered.

“But there’s been a development that potentially could have an impact on this deal and that is because one of United’s goalkeepers Tom Heaton has suffered a calf injury and it’s likely he could be out for a few games.

“It’s not been confirmed how long he’ll be out for, but it may need to be the case that Henderson may have to stay at United to cover for Andre Onana.”
