Manchester United’s Danish duo Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund were both in action on Sunday evening, as Denmark beat Finland 1-0 in Euro 2024 qualifying thanks to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s late strike.

Our no.14 was involved throughout the whole 90 minutes in Helsinki, with fellow United team-mate Hojlund introduced at the start of the second half.

Eriksen came close to opening the scoring after 19 minutes played at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium, with his rasping free-kick well saved by Finland goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky.

Operating out of his typically-creative number ten role for Kasper Hjulmand’s side, the Red and Whites saw plenty of the ball but had to be patient throughout the encounter.Denmark had to wait until the 86-minute mark to find the opener, with Wolfsburg’s Joakim Maehle teeing up Spurs midfielder Hojbjerg to smash home a low drive from the edge of the penalty box, sparking wild scenes from the visitors bench in the process.

United’s summer signing Hojlund did well during his 45-minute cameo and stretched Finland’s backline throughout, marking his 8th cap for his country with victory in Group H.

That result means Denmark leapfrog Finland at the top of the table, making it two wins from two during September’s internationals, following on from Thursday’s 4-0 win over San Marino. There was also action from one other Red earlier in the day, with defender Jonny Evans captaining his country in Kazakhstan, as Northern Ireland succumbed to a 1-0 defeat in Astana.

Much like Eriksen, Evans played the whole 90 minutes, with the game decided by Maksim Samorodov’s first-half strike.

That result follows on from the Green and White Army’s 4-2 defeat to Slovenia on Thursday, leaving them 5th in Group H after six games played. The trio are all now set to return to Carrington later this week, with the focus quickly turning to United’s next Premier League outing against Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday (15:00 BST).
