AS Monaco star Vanderson has admitted he was flattered to be linked to Manchester United this summer.

Reports from different outlets across Europe linked the 22-year-old with a move to Old Trafford in the transfer window. A right-back by trade, Vanderson has been utilised this season in a right-sided midfield role.

While Erik ten Hag has favoured wingers since arriving in the north west, there was a time when he was looking for a right-back with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future uncertain. But, at the back end of last season and the start of this one, the former Crystal Palace man has firmly established himself in the Dutchman’s plans.

Although no bid came through for Vanderson from either United or fellow linked club Barcelona, the Brazilian spoke during international duty about his pride at being talked about alongside the two teams. In an interview with Diario AS, he did reiterate his future was in Ligue 1.

“It’s great to hear Barcelona and United ‘love’ you,” Vanderson explained. “It’s fantastic to know your name is being mentioned by the big clubs. But, now I’m focused only on Monaco.”

United are currently well-stocked at right-back but are facing a minor injury crisis at left-back, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both injured. Tottenham Hotspur’s Sergio Reguilon joined United on deadline day to help ease United’s issues.
